Funny Happenings of the Day

Happening #1: Today there were five people in class. Needless to say, the teachers are not thrilled by this especially when most of those who don't show up, are the kids from France.

Teacher noticing there are only five people in the room.

Moreh: Ayfoh culam (Where is everybody)?
French kid walks in and sits down.
Shayna: I see we've reached our French classmate allowance for the day.


Happening #2: In class we learned about the word cadei, which means the better, or rather than. Good example was the teacher reciting Cova Adumah (Little Red Riding Hood) in Hebrew, ie. "the better (cadei) to see you with, my dear." To utilize this, we were to ask the person next to complete a sentence.

Shayna: Ani yoshev be-Ulpan (I am sitting in Ulpan)...
Notices French kid has passed out on his desk (not the same one as a week or so ago.
Morah walks over.
Morah: Mishpat (sentence)?
Shayna: Dan yoshev be-Ulpan, cadei lishon be-kitah (Dan is sitting in Ulpan, but would rather be sleeping in class).
