"Today is where your book begins. The rest is still unwritten." Welcome to my new and improved blog journaling my trip to Jerusalem for graduate school. Enjoy and read on!

I'm sure there's a word for it in French, as well.

Scene: Our ulpan teacher (morah) has separated us into groups of two to quiz each other on direction words in Hebrew: smola (left), yamina (right), yashar (straight), etc. On a map of Jerusalem we are to point to two different places and our partner is to "direct" us there. I'm with a French kid.

Shayna: So you want to go first?
French kid: mumbles something incoherently
Shayna: Ma zeh (What is it?)?
French kid: in a long, French drawl I'm tired....
Shayna: Well, I'm le tired, too. You can take a le nap later.
French kid chuckles at my sorry attempt at humor.

Teacher comes up to us
Morah: Ledaber, bevakashah (speak, please).
French kid: once again, mumbles incoherently
Shayna: Morah, ma zot milah "lazy" (Teacher, what is the word for "lazy"?)
Morah: Azlan.
Shayna: I rest my case.
French kid is passed out on his desk

End scene.

All else is well :)
