What's your frequency, Shayna?

One thing that Israelis are not at a lack for are opinions. Opinions on everything: the places you go, the people you see, the things you wear, most importantly, the music you listen, too. For example, the other night, I was invited to dinner with some friends of a friend at Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar in Tel Aviv (for my fellow Americans, Max Brenner's is a restaurant that only serves chocolate: drinks, deserts, etc.). While at dinner, I tried rotating around the table so I could talk to everyone. With every rotation, the conversation turned to music. I guess of all things in the world, it's easy to disucess music with people. Music as they say is the universal language. Anyways, they would ask me what music I liked, and vice versa.

Random Israeli: What music station do you listen to?
Shayna: I don't have a radio currently, but online I sometimes listen to Radio Tel Aviv.
RI: Radio Tel Aviv!? That's a... how you say.....yuppie station! You should listen to GalGalatz (that's a military station out of Jerusalem
Shayna: Oh....okay.

And so this conversation took place about 4 or 5 times with the radio station that I should be listening to, changing, about 4 or 5 times. GalGalatz, Radio Haifa, etc. etc.

Next,

Random Israel: What kind of music do you like?
Shayna: I'll listen to pretty much anything. I really like hip hop.
RI: Hip hop!? This 50 Cent is terrible! He no play instruments! How can he be called a musician!
Shayna: Well, he's sold millions of records so obviously someone thinks he's a musician.
RI: One can't account for good taste......

Begin week 2.
