Visit to the Islamic School

What an experience that was! I got there at about 9:30 and Sandy was with the little kiddles doing so artwork (two plastic eyeballs glued to a piece of paper and they had to draw bodies around it). I got there and headed to what looked like the office (a modular), and a sweet lady wearing a beautiful hijab led me to Sandy. After the kids were done with their art, Sandy and I went outside and watched the kids play basketball. Just like any group of 12 or 13 year olds at school, the boys hung out together, and the girls had there own little gaggle. The building which houses the preschool was formerly a bank. Interesting.

Anyways, I got a chance to know a few of the girls. Very sweet. They are as loud and catty as any other group of girls. The only difference is that past the age of 12, the dress code stipulates that they wear a white hijab, white longsleeve shirt, khaki pants, and a long vest/smock over their shirt. It didn't seem to affect them much. When I asked what they wanted to do when they grew up, not one said a housewife (which thankfully means that they are not indoctrinated). Pathologists, government agents, all sorts of cool stuff. The kids were getting their yearbooks and having a yearbook signing party, so I brought doughnuts for them (which the gaggle of girls loved). Pizza and soda poured freely.

The faculty of mostly women, were all incredibly sweet, shaking my hand. One male faculty member (the PE coach) shook my hand, but the other male faculty member the math teacher, did not. Kind of interesting. But all in all, it was a really cool experience, and everyone just loves her.
