I'll take it as a compliment.
On the way back from class today, I decided to take a cab from King George V St. (the city center) to the Merkaz. My luck, I get a cab driver who has no idea where the German Colony is. After taking back routes until we get to the main drag, I asked him (nicely) how is it that he could live in Jerusalem and not know where something so popular is. Well, he is not from Jerusalem. He and his family came to Jerusalem after his hometown, Haifa, began getting hit by katyushas. A philanthropic American decided to rent out a hotel and pay for families from the north to stay there for free; his family being one of those. I asked how long he had been living in the hotel: one month. Finally finding my way to the Merkaz, he asked for 25 shekels. I gave him 50: for the indirect route home and for his family. He said thank you over and over again calling me "as American as apple pie." And that sounds good to me.
